Evolution of the company
In the early 1990s, Akina’s founding partners saw an opportunity to make the potential of private equity investments in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Europe widely available for institutional investors and ultra high net worth individuals.
Their ambition marked the beginnings of the company, which at that time was part of the Lombard Odier Group. The investment advisor was founded in Zurich in 1998 by Christopher S. Bödtker, who was joined by Thomas Frei and Yvonne Stillhart in early 1999 and Mark Zünd in 2001. Their vision was of a dedicated, multi-national team of experts, whose aim would be to provide a truly personal service to clients as well as to achieve high levels of performance.
The company’s differentiated strategy proved successful: the new firm quickly became one of the leading advisors to private equity funds of funds, co-investment funds and single client mandate investment programmes in Europe. Following a management-led buyout from the Lombard Odier Group of its stake in LODH Private Equity AG and related entities at the beginning of 2010, the investment advisor was re-named Akina and became fully independent.
At the beginning of 2015, Akina (Luxembourg) S.A. has been founded and has been granted authorization as an Alternative Investment Fund Manager (AIFM) by the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) in Luxembourg, effective 30 January 2015.
